Post Database question Posted: Tue Oct 04, 2011 10:01 pm

hi there,

i have made a sub domain so i can do some testing from my website, the problem i am having is i don't want to use the same database, i need to duplicate the main database so i can have 2 that are the same but run 2 different sites. if you get what i mean lol

i want to know if i can just d/load a copy of the main site database and change the name, then re upload it to the test site and if so how can i re upload, obviously changing the config for the new database.

any questions just ask :)

thank you for your help!

p.s i am using cPanel

Have you not thought about installing XAMPP on your computer, its what I use

Can be a bit tricky for a first timer, but ones its installed its awsome, plenty of tutorials on Google on "How to install XAMPP"

I bet there is tutorials on "How to install PHPNuke on XAMPP" too

Other than that, what I would do is

-------------------------------------------

Download yoursite.com on FTP

Make a new folder yoursite.com/testsite and re-upload all your sites files

Go into Cpanel / Databases and download your current database

Make a new database in Cpanel and add user rights

Upload old database to new database in Cpanel

edit the yoursite.com/testsite/config.php to read the new database name

-------------------------------------------

Sounds confusing but its more time consuming than anything Angel

Hey ped thanks for the reply, couldnt get it to work, doing the upload download rubbish lol,

if any one else wants to know this is how i done it:

go to phpMyAdmin, then the database you want to duplicate, then go to, operations, on theat page you should have the option to copy the database, input your new database name and hit copy. it will then duplicate the database and create it! then make sure you have changed the database info in yoursite.com/config.php.

p.s what is XAMPP for?

thanks alot guys!
