Post Can sign into my php-nuke user account, but then i'm blocked Posted: Fri Sep 09, 2011 6:13 pm

I have a very weird problem going on right now.

This morning I noticed that after I sign into my user account on our PHP-Nuke website the website appears to be non-responsive. As in I'm being blocked from accessing any part of our website. Which is just weird because it worked fine yesterday.

After I cleared my cookies I could view our website again, but obviously wasn't signed in anymore. My account does appear as signed in on the main website though. So, I tried signing into another account (my fiancee's account) and I had no problems whatsoever! I could view and access all areas of the website. My own user account still appeared as signed in though, so according to our website I was signed in with two accounts at the same time while I wasn't. On the same computer! Very odd.

Both accounts are admin accounts btw, I have the proper access set up for both of them so that probably isn't causing this odd behaviour. Right now I actually think my user account may be blocked by the servers firewall. I of course checked everywhere to see if NukeSentinel or PHP-Nuke was blocking my user account but couldn't find any indication of that anywhere.

I then tried several browsers to see if one of them was causing it, but to no avail. They all acted the same way. As a final resort I decided to try the whole routine on other computers, at work, at a friends house etc. Still the same results though.

What does work is the admin CP. I can sign in there without problems but as said once I try to access the main website with my user account it just doesn't do anything for me except just wait as if access is blocked.

I already posted a support ticket with ClanServers, but maybe someone here knows if:

a. PHP-Nuke can cause this behaviour. If so, how can I solve it?
b. NukeSentinel could cause this behaviour. If so, how can I solve it?
c. the weird behaviour could be caused by a firewall block on a PHP-Nuke user account? Is that even possible?

Any comments or help is appreciated. I am responsible for the website and so need this fixed as soon as possible.

Which version of Nuke are you using, ravenenuke, nuke evo, standard, if so what version ?

What browser are you using ?

#1: When you signed in under you're girls account, was it from the same IP ?, if so then it's not a firewall issue.

#2: Have you turned on error reporting in you're config.php and tried to log in, in order to see any errors that might tell you why this is happening ?

#3: Have you checked you're web site error logs ?

#4: Have you logged into you're admin CP and re-checked all of the NS settings ?

#5: Have you logged into phpMyAdmin and checked the nuke authors and nuke users entries to see if anything has changed there ?

We are using PHP-Nuke 8.0 patched 3.5. But I'm happy to report the problem is fixed.

The culprit was the Membership block we had running on our website. I checked the error logs and saw something about a function deprecated in the Membership block and I had never seen that error message before so I decided to see what happened if I disabled it. Everything worked fine right away and so I knew what was the cause of the problem.

Now for your questions.

1. Yes, I did sign in from the same IP address. I somehow thought though firewalls can block user accounts. Silly me :)

2. Yep :)

3. Yep :)

4. Yes, I did. They were as they should be.

5. Yes, also did that. Nothing wrong there.

I still find it odd though only one account had problems with that Membership block. We have been using it for almost a year without any problems. I guess though software behaves odd some times. But it's fixed and that's what counts :)
