Shop Purchases:
Enemy Territory Theme (Aviator) for PHP Nuke · Clan Roster 2.0 ·  · Modern Warfare 3 Xtreme Theme

Overall, its pointless to do that. switching your phpbb 2.0.23 to phpbb3 would be basically downgrading and your users will have 2 login's, once for the site and once for the forums. Me personally. I would get annoyed with that.

If you search out the forums here, allot of people ask on how to do it and you can set it into an iframe, but overall, its not going to look good and wont have the function to your site.

What is it with phpbb3 that people want to use it so badly? I just don't get it. Its not a upgrade, its more of a downgrade. But if you really want to do it, research iframes but be prepared for looking function of your site and have it not work with your site.

All of the functions that PHPBB3 has are already in PHPNuke and BBToNuke so like dread says its rather a pointless downgrade for users of PHPNuke.

I have to respectfully disagree.

I have messed with both systems and I do have to say, 3 makes more sense than the throw together look of any version of 2. Assigning permissions is simplier and more straight forward as are adding groups and controling forum strings.

When version 3 first came out I started working on deleting 2 from the CMS I was using to use it. What I ran in to were issues the developers had yet to fix and developers had not had the opportunity to make or update their mods for it.

I don't consider it a downgrade, just more of a lateral change. It is true that 2 is more stable and has tons more options, but in true comparisoon, 2 was no better than 3 is now at this stage.

I am suprised tho tho that someone has not developed a script to "upgrade" from 2 to 3 in these newer cms systems. And, I do need to revisit 3 again to see how they have progressed.

If this seems randomly odd, I do apologize. I have been in an auto accident and am under some strong medication.

and I do have to disagree. Version 3 was a rushed script at the end. What happen was there was a massive server problem where the site went down and while it was being fixed the rush 3 to get out. Yes since then they have improved upon it but phpbb3 was basically a version of 2 with a changed look to the ACP but the down to function was the same and the coding was pretty much the same. The additions that was done to it was mostly stuff that others had coded and put on there site for downloads to be used on anybodies site.

The most annoying thing I found with phpbb3 as them reversing where the avatar is. You can do it with any theme I know, but to have it like that by default and no easy way of changing it was what pissed me off with phpbb3. But everyone will have there own opinions and they are valued to them.

Thought phpBB3 is better in some ways then phpbb2, NUKE does not run phpbb and I like to get that out first because allot of people seem not to understand that. Nuke runs BB2Nuke and there for to convert phpbb3 to a form of BB2Nuke would not be feasible and to convert nuke to work on phpbb3 is also impractical. It would be best to start with phpbb3 and build a new system around that which I believe there was someone that started that project a year or 2 ago and I have not heard any news of it since. I believe it was killigan or someone over at Evo that was working on that system.

corpse is right about phpBB3 and NukeBB. NukeBB is actually a better system with more options and control. However, it isn't updated to an all css layout and template system like phpBB3 is. Another thought is that phpBB3 has more problems with spam and as of the last time I checked, they couldn't find a way to stop it. With the version used in Raven Nuke, Nuke Evolution and Evolution-Xtreme, we don't have a problem where we have spam posted to our forums like they do in phpBB3.

Can we upgrade the forums used in nuke distros? yes we can and we probably will be doing it. We are not going to try to move to phpBB3 though. But we can actually update the forums, change the style system in it and add in the very few newer functions that phpBB3 has that we don't.

Building a new cms just to be able to have phpBB3 isn't really worth doing. Building a new cms that would allow you to plugin several different forums would be. We have the skill and time, we just don't have the developers. We simply need more developers that actually want to work on improving the core and forums. So, if you know of any developers that want to help let me know Smiley
