Hey Guys,

Bit of a noob question, but I would like to run a server on my pc, but be able to still us it for everyday software. I seen it done by a member here, basically need some sort of 'cPanel' with 'SQL Database'.

I have found this: , but am unsure if im on the right tracks for the 'cPanel'. As for a 'SQL Database' I ain't got the funniest idea were to start. I done a bit of searching, but it dont help when you dont now hat you are looking for.

So what i am after, if one of you amazing people out there know were to get it is, a free 'Web Hosting' client for my pc hard drive were i can do most of the things I'd be able to do with 'Host Gator', don't need to be a cPanel but something similar and free. This day and age I'm scint for money. As a matter of fact me and my partner are on 'Benefits' (Not pround to say that, at all).

So if anyone know's of a way please be ure to leave instructions with links and a step by step guide on how to install and setup everything from a domain on the pc, to installing the software and linking it all up.

Just use wamp its less work than most to set up and is easy to run a site live with it. there forums are full of resources to help you on your way.

Note if you dont set up the security right you leave your PC open to attacks

Yea but with wamp when you turn your PC off your site goes off but that is the same with any site that is ran from your home PC (i think). I use wamp and swear by it sometimes it can be a pain like making you think your code dont work and you upload it to a live site and its fine thats because you dont have a certain extension installed/activated << In my case anyway

I would use xampp ive not been able to get mine to work in the past though, I think it was a port problem

To test it just get your IP addy, and try to access it from a 3rd party (IE give your IP addy to a mate on MSN and see what they get when they goto your IP addy in a browser)

And as Snype says your site is only live whilst your PC is on

I have a HP MediaSmart Server http://goo.gl/Kg3K4 at home for file backups and I could run a server from it as well if I wanted too, and its always on, I use it for streaming music and movies around the house for the kids (and me)
