This mod I created adds the ability to force people to have to post X amount of post before they are allowed to download. System does have an on and off switch and the ability to put your own custom message in it for the users that don't have the amount of forum post. This system creates a new link in the Downloads ACP that has the options for the controls. Tool tip was also built into it for added help for people that need it.

This mod was designed to stop people from just registering on your site and downloading the content which I have noticed has plagued my site. Though they are return visitors quite often, they never post, they just take. This can cause people to spam on your forums, that's why in the default message I put that if they do they will be banned and will be indefinitely removed from downloading on your site. Which you can do through sentinel or the ACP, banning them.

This mod will also work great in conjunction to my DL limiter mod that I built into the DL section in the 1.0b4 version where though they may come to your site and spam to make your post count, then can only download up to what ever you set for the limits so you can have up to 24 hours to catch them and ban them so they can't get more from you.

I may build more function into it later on, but for now it is what it is. I hope you enjoy...

I went to post on this earlier and you removed the post lol anyway what i wrote before.
This is a great addition to the module and kinda reminds me of the mod in the arcade mod where users have to post before they can play and that had a proven track record of working so i am sure this new feature for the downloads will follow the path and increase a site's forum traffic

Thanks for the comment. I did this because in the past year, I been watching what people do on my site and where they go as soon as they register, and I have noticed that 99% of the people that register on my site are going straight to our downloads section. Yesterday, while counting sheep at my computer, it hit me to do this, after waking up and cleaning off the drool off my keyboard, I started work on this.

I removed it earlier for I had a error, in it that I can't believed I did. Some how in the mist of me being way over tired last night and working on it, I changed something thinking it was for the good, well in doing that I change a table it called on and caused an error in it. After I released it earlier, I went and tested it on my site, just some random test. It did not work anymore. So I quickly removed it before anyone downloaded it and I went nuts for about 5 hours trying to find the error that was staring me right in the face.

After walking away for about 2 hours, I came back and went to ask Noto for help and it dawned on me, the answer was staring me in the face, I got it fixed right as Ped was contacting me cause I went to ask him also.

After I explained what happened and showed Ped a snippet of the code that was causing the error, which made him a bit confused, I got it working, tested, repacked, and here it is. Rolling Eyes

A added note, if you would like to see how it looks a bit better, you can go to http://www.headshotdomain.net and try registering, then go to the downloads section and try downloading. You will see how it will tell you the minimum post you need and how many you have.

Also, using HTML in the message is allowed.

Hey Dread i have an idea dont know what you will think but it came to me after playing with a wordpress plug in.

Could you add an area for ads like personal ads and adsense? something like the ads module where say within the module there would be dlads(1); dlads(2); and within the downloads admin you would have the ads admin then at the top have a select box with top bottom and so on then below have another one with a size then below that one have a text area for the ads code to be typed in. Just seems like another way to drum up revenue if some one uses ad sense or sells ad space.

so basically put an add system into the Downloads section. Because I think I would be able to take the add system from nuke and put it in there, but I think it would be something that I personally don't see being something that should be in a DL module. As it now, you can add in the information into the module, you can also put in the URL to the site creator, but I don't really see advertising other or building that in.

I may not be getting at what your totally thinking so I might be misunderstanding you.

Another great addition to a great module

Is this add-on added to the main download now or is it a separate download for users ?

I know not everyone will want it, but it might be a good idea to just have 1 download (the module) with everything added, then there is no confusion.

Alternatively I have seen this module grow from standard to enhanced, so if you want your own downloads section on CT I can knock you one up.

As for the Ads as snype mentioned, I added ads to our downloads under the "Download Button" by using the existing Averting Module and just made it ads(99); so then users could add a placement of 99 and if they wanted to add a banner... it could be an option I guess

Might be better if you had a "Sponsors" banner, say if someone was sponsoring the download you could place a banner to the sponsors website... but I guess that would be a limited use too though.

How about a "pay" to remove the download limits say $5 and you can remove the posts per download ! lmao Kiss

As of right now, this mod is only available here in the forums of CT or on my site in the downloads section. I am going to for now release these as individual hack for they are coming out to far and few to make them as a new release.

These mods will be eventually added all to the module if I get enough of them. Lately, the idea's to what to have done to the module is to far and spread out. so for now, till I can think of enough stuff, or do something major to the module, then these small hacks will have to do. I just really hate to release a new version of the module if I only did 3 small things to it.

Though I know some people may not way this or that, By default, I make everything with a on and off switch. There are some moders that like to force something on you, I am one to believe that the owner of the site has full control and should decide if he wants it or not.

I make these hacks as easy as I can so people will have no issues adding them. Take this one for example, there is only 1 file you need to edit and that is the language file, 1 edit. The rest overwrites the files and a SQL needs to be run. Should take even the most new person that knows the minimum basics, 2 min to install this hack.

As for the ad system. Since evo already has a better ad system then I would care to build, then I could take what they have and create as ped said, something to work off that. Maybe put something into the ACP for them to fill in the info about the banner so all they would have to do is enter the information from that add system. I believe in Evo, in the ACP, in the Modules Admin Section, (the bottom half of the ACP), The first button is called Banners, that is the Ad's Administration. But you would be limited on 1 add for the DL section, but you can put it as a new location. Maybe if I could figure out a way to have it rotate between multiple you can add then that might work, but I am unsure on how to do that.

Ok another idea that i have been playing with is a tabbed area for the description fixes and features i think if you are good with css you could style it to look really slick anyway here is some screenshots of it.

I liked the tab menu idea, be a tricky one to accomplish though

As for the images Floppy added side blocks for the advertisement and i never got round to amending the image resize mod, done now though

the tab system is not a bad idea, not sure how difficult that would actually be. I would have to research the tabs a bit more. only problem I can see with the tab is either I would have to put the graphic code on each page so they can download from each tab or just put it on the first and see if they would actually read it.
