Post Forums not moving up or down Posted: Thu Jan 13, 2011 3:48 pm

Hi, I'm having an issue with my bbnuke forums. When I create any forum and then decide to move it up or down I cannot. It just wont move, no matter which forum I choose to move up or down. I tried re-syncing and everything I've also tried reinstalling just the bb sql tables and the entire CMS with a fresh database and that did nothing.

I'm running Nuke Evolution Xtreme 2.0.9b with bbnuke 2.0.23 all of which are up-to-date.
I'm rather confident that it's Xtreme causing the issue but considering its from a fresh install and a packaged releases I haven't found any other complaint about it so I'm at a loss as to whats causing it.

yeah, I am testing it on my xtreme 2.0 site. I think something got messed up when they were adding in some of the new forums mods. I know its working on my Evo 2.0.7 site that I manually upgraded my self to be equal or better then Extreme, but this also took me 2 years to do.

I did notice if I started and moved the top one Down, it moved, but ones in the middle didn't. Not sure if I can fix this fast but I might be able to come up with a work around till wither I or someone else can come up with a fix.

My workaround may come in the form of editing some things in the Database, if your not comfortable with it, then I will be able to help you through remote access, but let me first figure out what tables will need to be altered and if it will work.

Well I know how to edit it via the database table but that's my last resort. The table your looking for is nuke_bbforums. forum_id = the order of which the forum is in and cat_id = the order of which the category the forum is in. It's very inconvenient to do it this way though lol.

I currently don't have my forums created other than 2 testing ones as I reinstalled. I can move the categories up and down but not the forums within each category.

I downloaded 2.0.7 this morning and tried that as well and still ended with the same results as 2.0.9b. I've even posted this on Nuke Evolution Xtremes site and contacted SgtLegend on msn, but have yet to hear back from anyone other than you.

I'm not receiving any phperror's on this issue either.

okay, to manually change them to the order you want, go into the database, (phpmyadmin), and find the table nuke_bbforums. Once in there, you can find the ones you want to move, if you look at them, there is a column called forum_order, and you will notice they are probably all the same number, On my test site they were all set to 10. Well, that's the problem. they should be in order of 1 - 10+. the number 1 would be the top forum in the category, and go from there, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ect...

This is something you can alter manually, but if you go to move them after you do that, you will be able to for a few tries then they will get stuck again. I am not sure on a fix but this is something after getting your site the way you want it, would be best brought to the Evo Extreme team sore its effects there CMS and it has to be something that they did or altered to cause this.

You said you tried on 2.0.7. which 2.0.7, Exrteme 2.0.7 or Evo 2.0.7. I have Evo 2.0.7 and it works, but not on my Extreme version. so I don't know what the issue is, I will look into the coding of the forums to see if I can find the error.

Evolution Xtreme 2.0.7 is the second one I tested.

When I look at my forum_order column everything is stuck at 10. I think I might have figured out the issue this is what I did.

each forum_order was set to 10.

forum "Site" I changed to 1, forum "test" I changed to 2. From there I went into my AdminCP to move them and I moved "Site" down which worked but after that it wouldnt work for either forum. I refreshed my database and found out they both were stuck at forum_order 3. So the problem is its not switching the orders of the forums that are being moved and once they hit the same forum_order number your not able to move them anymore unless you change their numbers within the database

EDIT:

Second test:

"Site" = 1, "test" = 2. I went into AdminCP and moved "Site" down and it did nothing, i than refreshed the database and "Site" now had a forum_order of 2 which "test" was still set at 2. Its not updating the forum_order of the other forums as you move them up and down

Well, I narrowed down the problem to the "Simple Sub Forums Mod" that is causing the issue. If you open up admin_forums.php and do the search for

Code:
case 'forum_order':

you will see a section of coding that is for the forums movement. If you remove all the simple sub-forums mod from it,

Code:
/*****[BEGIN]******************************************
 [ Mod:    Simple Subforums                    v1.0.1 ]
 ******************************************************/
         if( !$forum_info['forum_parent'] )
         {
            // Find previous/next forum
            if( $move > 0 )
            {
               $sql = "SELECT forum_id, forum_order FROM " . FORUMS_TABLE . " WHERE cat_id = '$cat_id' AND forum_parent = '0' AND forum_order > '" . $forum_info['forum_order'] . "' ORDER BY forum_order ASC";
            }
            else
            {
               $sql = "SELECT forum_id, forum_order FROM " . FORUMS_TABLE . " WHERE cat_id = '$cat_id' AND forum_parent = '0' AND forum_order < '" . $forum_info['forum_order'] . "' ORDER BY forum_order DESC";
            }

            if( !($result = $db->sql_query($sql)) )
            {
               message_die(GENERAL_ERROR, "Couldn't change category order", '', __LINE__, __FILE__, $sql);
            }

            $row = $db->sql_fetchrow($result);
            $db->sql_freeresult($result);
            if($row !== false)
            {
               // Swap forum orders
               $sql = "UPDATE " . FORUMS_TABLE . " SET forum_order = '" . $row['forum_order'] . "' WHERE forum_id = '$forum_id'";
               $db->sql_query($sql);

               $sql = "UPDATE " . FORUMS_TABLE . " SET forum_order = '" . $forum_info['forum_order'] . "' WHERE forum_id = '" . $row['forum_id'];
               $db->sql_query($sql);
            }
         }
         else
         {

/*****[END]********************************************
 [ Mod:    Simple Subforums                    v1.0.1 ]
 ******************************************************/

and a few lines lower

Code:
/*****[BEGIN]******************************************
 [ Mod:    Simple Subforums                    v1.0.1 ]
 ******************************************************/
         }
/*****[END]********************************************
 [ Mod:    Simple Subforums                    v1.0.1 ]
 ******************************************************/

Overall, removing it does fix it. I am not sure what effect it will have on the movement of sub-forums. I really have not looked into a fix yet, I was just woken up to a back pain and I figured while I was up I would look for the source of the problem so now we can come up with a solution. I did remove it from my test site and the sub forums seemed to still be there.

after a quick play in my ACP, I have no errors, and everything is working, just by removing that one Simple Subforums mod code from the file. and yes, I am still able to move my subforums up and down with in the category.

I can't really explain how amazing it is to have this answer :). Thanks a ton for taking the time and looking into this annoying bug for me. I did everything you said and as you said it works with no problems.

I know, I am not sure what that code is for, I mean looking at it, looks to me as if its supposed to move the sub-forums up and down, but with out it you still can.

I saw you posted over at Evo with this problem with no replies. I will keep looking into this and if I come up with a fix for that coding, (if its really needed), then I will post here and shoot you a PM or something.

Sounds good. Kinda nerve racking that they still haven't replied to me on an issue like this. I mean I doubt I'm the first person to say something about this bug and if so why hasn't it been taken care of lol.

I see they released 2.0.9c today but there isn't a fix in the changelog relating to this -.-'

I did notify SgtLegend in a PM about this. I did direct him to this thread. I rather had contacted him in a PM rather then contacting Killgan for him and I still have some bad blood. But we will see if they release a independent fix which I think if the fix that I did boils down to be the right fix or the best fix, then it should be easy enough. I just feel that code should be doing something but i have yet to figure out what for when its not there, everything seems to work fine.

Yeah, I tried IMing SgtLegend over msn but didn't get a response. I'm with you on the code worries though as its there for a reason whatever the reason is, but giving what the code reads out to be it should be doing what the system is now doing without it =/.

Keep me up to date with what they decide on doing if its not publicly stated anywhere.
