I am using the COD BO theme with the CT shoutbox and wanted to know the correct way of adding the shoutbox to the top of forums.

With great difficulty !!

I've just done it on a clients website http://www.painstreetgaming.com/modules.php?name=Forums (also modded its looks and added avatars and styles) and it was not easy, its not a case of just including the the block in the forums, a few modifications have to be done as well, and because it was Xtreme I found that the Ajax was conflicting so had to re-write the shout submit button.

Noto has also done it on his site (Ravens Nuke) http://www.tce-squad.com/forums.html and I must say it is an excellent feature.

It would take a long long time to explain how to do it. Its just not an easy mod to do for a novice coder.

Have a go and see where you get to (MAKE BACKUPS) IF you don't know where to start, then I suggest its to hard a mod for you to even attempt

it can be a right arse hole to get working (posting), on some of the newer nukes, especially if they have alot of other js going on in the forum.

Ped, How different is your shoutbox compaired to the shoutbox that comes on Evo extreme?

I believe its Shout Box 8.5.2 but I am not positive. I did make up a mod do work with the Shout Box 8.5.2 to display in the forums like how you have those 2 and if they run on similar structures, then it should be pretty easy to do, its like 2 files and one edit.

Any running Shout Box 8.5.2 and want the script, you will be able to find it in the forums, I am just testing it on my Evo extreme test sites to make sure I have everything and I will redo the readme. I don't know who created it, but a friend had it on his site and he was not sure what files or anything was, so I went through and tracked everything down, so I do not know the original author also, so if anyone has that info be sure to let me know on that also.

The shoutbox that I used was the standard one that came with Xtreme, instead of including the block using a simple include I re-wrote the block into the forums index styling it as I went along.

In total of the top of my head there was about 4-5 edits the hardest though was getting the Avatars to work for ALL users (non registered, newly registered, gallery and off site avatars)

Then as i said the other problem was the Ajax conflicting so had to use a standard submit feature.

In total I think I spent all day modifying it and getting the Avatars dam working but im sure a coder better than me would do it in half the time Wink

okay, so the edit forum shout hack that I just put in the DL section may work, it just wont have the avatars show for that does not have it. This one that I posted is a total of 2 files, and one edit to the header,php, well for Evo its in the header.php right before the closing ?>.

But you and I know how strange Evo and raven differ with edits in the header from working on that ribbon hack I think it was that we just did.

You sure you used the same one that came with xtreme for the flash shout box thats in COD BO theme.

block-CT-Shout.php

The one that came with xtreme is block-Shout_Box and that hack is for this. Actually adding the shoutbox to forums using this shout is easy.

Maybe I am tired and confused. Ill work/look on it more later

Thats what I thought. My original post was regarding the one that came with the theme as stated.

So you meant the one you re-coded is the standard and not the flash. To me how the posts reads are the confusing part.

I would release it, but not just yet.. simply because they paid me to do it, so it wouldn't really be fair if I maid them pay for a shoutbox mod and then released it for free to the community.

Maybe in a few months when there site is gone and the clan closed haha

But for now dread has released a good alternative Kiss
