My step Dad put a virus (going to bad sites -.-) located @ C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe, can I just delete the file?, AVG says it's a critical system file that should not be removed, but if I don't remove it, then what do I do cause it's tampering with my google chrome which I have over 1,000 bookmarks in (literally), also, can't I just transfer those bookmarks to another web browser?

I never heard of a virus that stops you from going to bad sides, sounds more like a parental control program which is not a virus.

and you delete that windows file then you will not be on your computer for a while till you fix it. That is a necessary file used by windows and SHOULD NOT be removed.

I would export the bookmarks, I use firefox and I export my bookmarks and save them on my external HD

I would do a backup now of all your files you want to keep

I would consider 2 options

My dad also recently had a virus, redirecting the browser, and it turned out the virus was actually on the dam router !! work that out !

I reset the router and all was good ! took me hours and hours to work out why.

Anyway, I would consider doing a system restore if it is C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe as that will be backed up.

or backup all your files and do a new install of windows, only takes me a few hours now to re-install everything again from scratch !

I have made a backup of this new install though as I now have my own server that makes copies of my OS for me, so if it goes wrong I can do a backup from my server and not do a fresh install of the OS

I hate viruses

And I wouldnt use AVG personally... I use Kerpasky and it is rock solid, not had a virus for over 3 years now... its a pid for service but its well worth it in my opinion, is your AVG by any change the free version ?? If you want to use a free version try Avast Free.. not much better but better LMAO
