So after adding the Multiple Gamer Theme to the shop yesterday I decided to have a crack at making the popular www.960.gs style template onto PHPNuke

Inspiration / code was used from http://www.designinfluences.com/fluid960gs/12/fixed/ as it is GPL

After 2 hours coding and converting the theme to the theme.php I got it all working in the end

Please note that its still early days, my main initial goal was to see if I could get it working taking into consideration a 3 column layout for most pages, 2 column for some modules and indeed no blocks in modules like the forums and your account.

If you don't know how the 960 layout works ill explain in basic terms.

The width of the theme is 960 pixels and then it can me broken down into 16 segments across the 960 pixels.

all segments are aligned perfectly can are aligned on a grid so it makes coding layouts very easy

On the main preview below i settled for an overall layout of a container of 12... broken down into 3 columns of 3-6-3 (making the 12) so the left blocks are a 3 box the center blocks / news are a 6 box and the right blocks are another box of 3.

That was the easy part !

I then had to code it for just left / right blocks so i used the grid style of 3-9 and for the forums the whole 12 !

sorry if im confusing you !

Anyway as you can see it looks rather sharp and clean and so far after just a few hours work Im very happy with the results.

I will release this once its free, simply because the 960.gs system is very good

I did try a layout of 3-5-4 and i liked the look of that too, I may add instructions on how to accomplish that as well... only takes a few edits, in fact it would be easier if I just included a separate theme.php !! duh why didn't I think of that !

After I have done the fixed width I will do the fluid layout as well

Im away for a week now so I will catch up with this project when I get back

Awesome work Ped. I really like 960 and it makes layouts so easy. I am ready to see some complicated graphics on it lol.

I will do the fixed width first, then the fluid version... The coding will be the same just a different CSS file

hmm giving me some ideas, this theme could be a very popular one if I released it in different colour schemes too...

As it stands the theme is only using 2 images and there really tiny so its going to load real fast

I looked at this a while back but didn't place much emphasis in it. It'll be interesting to see what you can do with it.

I know it doesn't seem like much now to the avg joe blow, but this could change the way phpnuke themes are done. That is something to get excited about. I can't wait for Ped to take this to the next lvl and you couldn't ask for a better person for the job.
