Hey guys, I'm back from a short vataction and changes of CMS systems. For those who aren't knowledgable about V-Bulletin, I'd highly suggest you go check it out. Outside of having to pay for it, the security benefits are definitely worth the price. Unfortunately, the cms side of it still has a lot to be desired.

I've stopped in time to time briefly, but didn't comment, so, to catch up. I like the new addons... the top nav bar looks nice! I also like the dropping of that silly arsed point system for general downloads, I know you're supprised about that one, lol. Btw, the downloads section is growning nicely.

I see you're still using RN, hmmm... can't figure that one out, still as always the theme looks nice.

What is the cheapest theme you guys have for sale? I'm just curious...

Anyways, I'm back for a bit... good to see you guys are still around

Call of Duty 4 SAS Theme

Yea VB is good but the support sucks and as for there licensing i know where they could shove that, I brought a VB 3.8 license then out of the blue VB4 was released and guess what you had to have a whole new license at a massive price difference from the original. So i would all ways choose RN over VB they just want all the money they can get. But apart from that yea its a good CMS lol.

RavenNuke == No1 lol

Yeah, the free ones are pretty cheap, lol. I'm more interested in looking at the coding than anything. I have access to a CT theme, but, out of respect, I would rather pick up a cheap one and do it that way. It's only right to do so.

Also, where is the TOS for the CT themes, I'm curious in looking at it.

Snype-Corpse: good to see you two still hanging around.

Snype, I understand your disgust with the 3.8 version of VB, it was hardly something to bragg about. The 4.1 I was working on up until last week was the Suite version and man-o-man, it was sweet. The CMS side still needs a lot of work tho. I think in a few years it'll be much better and much more functional that nuke could ever be. Plus the security, well, it rocks. I had to switch back to nuke, some of our old times didn't like the cms side and wasn't posting as much as they normally do.

Look at the coding? why do you want to learn how to code a theme? if so why not look into the free ones?

VB is not and never has been the most user friendly CMS a bit like IPB they are very hard at first to get used to. But the way you could look at it in a few years yea VB will be much better but whats to say ravennuke wont be? i mean if they were to change the license type i think a lot more coders may think of coming back to nuke.

Anyway good to see you didnt leave the community for VB lol

RN is a basic CMS, it is what it is. Calling it a speciality CMS isn't really right when one looks at CMS systems such as Evo, Evo Xtreme, Platinum etc. Striping mods and blocks, doesn't make RN a "speciality" CMS.

On the same token, its not designed to be a "speciality CMS" its designed to be a basic CMS for those who want to add their own stuff, minues all the crap that comes with other CMS systems.

I want to be fair where it comes to the theme issue. If I purchase a cheap theme, then very little complaint can be made if I modify, add, delete, support, or criticize the coding. Once I look it over, I'll just sell the theme and associated license... relinquishing all ownership and agreements to the new owner. I want to read the TOS, for other reasons. I'n the past I have found it to be a true statement of the Nuke community to pass along agreements that is contradictory to legal rights. I'm curious as to what the purhcase agreement are for CT and if this is one of those cases. I'm not doing this to criticize CT, it's for personal knowledge. Who knows I may be able to help in the rewriting of the CT TOS... or maybe not.

Just like Platinum, Evo, Evo Xtreme, Joomla, Mamba, Wordpress, V-Bulletin, IPB, and many others, I want to be able to speak with personal knowledge and confidence when either glamourizing CT or criticizing CT.

I normally don't get into the support side simply because, quite honestly, no one ever surpasses my opinions of what a support system should be. So I try to stay away from that area, unless invited to do so.

If im right, you installed a site recently (http://op-tactical.net) and they purchased the wrong theme, they purchased a standard theme, you installed Evo Xtreme and then the idiot came demanding the Xtreme version for free... I guess that is why you are asking about the TOS ?

As the licence goes, PHPNuke is GPL... so the code of the theme is GPL... the way we have copyrighted our goods is to release our images separate...( in a separate download) therefore our images remain Clan Themes property thus not falling under the stupid GPL ruling.

Any theme that is downloaded from the authors site where the images are included with the theme files automaticly becomes GPL.. don't ask me why but apparently this is the case..so we had to get a shop that allowed multiple downloads for one item. We worked hard with Gotcha from nukecoder.com and he made the shop we have today.

As for Ravens Nuke v Evo Xtreme, it is of course personal preference.. CT is not a clan site so RN was perfect for our needs and still is today. It would be a close decision today which CMS I would choose for a Clan Site, I would probably choose Xtreme as it has all the forum mods... I'm not interested in the modules and blocks though... just the forum mods, so if ravens nuke made a forums mod pack.. I would probably use there's also.

As for http://op-tactical.net buying the wrong theme, that remains there fault and always will do, i offering him an 80% + discount on swapping the theme, and I have no obligation to give him anything, I just guessed he was new to all this...and I was right.

Post Back Again =) Posted: Tue May 04, 2010 8:53 pm

I see my names been mentioned already, lol.

As it is true that the incident does peak my interest, there are more issues at hand than merely a complaint between two people I know. I have read the posts and place fault on both sides for letting something so simple to fix to get out of hand. The general nastiness directed at CT was just as absurd as the zero mistake policy CT has. (Just my opinion)

Either way, that is not of interest to me, it's the legalities which are. I'm not forsaking one of you over the other here. This, to me is a good case study. Legalities, we all know is a field of interest of mine. So much comes in to play here... What is long boring reading for most, is the interest of me.

I agree with your opinions regarding "personal preference..." it couldn't have been said better.

To place an opinion on the incident to satisfy your interest and the interest of all, is as follows:

"The measure of a business isn't their ability to move product or their productivity it's in the adversity and the way they handle resolvable issues."

Now, saying that, I'm still interested in the cheapest theme you have and the CT purchase agreement... may I get this info?
If you need to know why, the theme I want because I want to look at the coding, for future references and when I work on other CT themes for people who purchase them. This way I have a "legal copy" for comparisons.

The Purchase Agreement, I want to compare UCC case law.

Ped, you can PM me regarding this and my directions, I also have a TS you can visit and speak personally. That number is ts59.gameservers.com port 9102

I'm not condeming one over the other... I'm just interested in the legalities.

Call of Duty 4 SAS Theme

This is all i know about and can find
Quote:
Introduction
Clan Themes has had to implement a 2 tier download system for our themes, this is the first of its kind for any PHP Nuke site. Why have we done this ? In short to stop sites adding/selling our themes on there sites. If you ever downloaded a theme from a site as 1 file it was ALL classed under the GPL licence and this meant anyone could resell or add them as a download on there site. The ONLY way around this is to supply the GPL content and Clan Themes images in 2 separate downloads.
The following paragraph is taken from http://ravenphpscripts.com/postt8424.html and explains it in more detail, I have copied the Graphics section for uses to take note off.
If you develop software that only works with a gpl application, like php-nuke, and you supply graphics with it instead of just place holders, the source code and the graphics are now gpl, at least in that release.

A good example here is themes, which consist of many images.
To keep the graphics proprietary under your own license, you must follow these rules

1. The theme must be released with "place holders". This are fake graphics that replace your copyrighted graphics.

2. The copyrighted graphics must be released separately, and may never be released combined with source code.

3. Instructions how to merge the theme and graphics is license-free

4. In case of an updated release to split the proprietary graphics from the GPL, the graphics are still owned by the general public.

I offered him an 80% + discount ?? He was trying to blame the site and US for HIS mistake ?? It only got out of hand when he started threatening us with legal action, the muppet...

We have to have zero mistake policy because people will buy a theme, download it and then say we brought the wrong one and get 2 themes for the price of one... Just because the Evo and Xtreme themes look the same doesn't mean they are, there is a whole days coding difference.

You can read up on the GPL from the link Snype has posted, it about covers everything >> http://ravenphpscripts.com/postt8424.html

I couldn't agree more, our support is second to none, not one complaint to date in the last 4 years, except this one that your friend is trying to blame us for buying the wrong theme.

RELIC wrote:

All our themes are £35 except the free ones

All the coding on the themes are unique, no 2 are the same, if you are installing our themes for others they will have to purchase the theme and ask for support via the "purchased theme support" forums.

Google tells me UCC is only for USA (currently 49 states)

RELIC wrote:

So am I, dont get me no where though LMAO

Feel free to PM me if you find some interesting facts out, I know Ravens site will always debate really well on the GPL, well they always have done in the past...

Cheers

The GPL is what it is and desperately is in need of an overhaul. Maybe we will get lucky in our life time and see more common sense applied. Naaaaaaaaaaaaa.... lol

Ped, sent you a PM,

Also, no need to break down our discussions, paragraph comprehension is one of my stronger attributes. Additionally, it's time consuming on your end.

Can you post a copy of the Purchase Agreement (P.A.) on here please or send it to me via pm or e-mail.

thanks,
