Post Strange surveys and reviews module user id comments problem Posted: Mon Oct 19, 2009 3:28 am

Ok..gonna try to explain this...

It used to be when people left comments on my surveys or reviews their userid would be attached to the comments. Somewhere along the line this has stopped and instead for surveys they show annonymous and blank for for reviews. Now what's wierd is that when you go to post a comment in the reviews section it does identify you and shows your user id but once the comment is left it's blank.

I have to admit this may have been the case for months and several mods have been made since the last posts (remember...I didn't notice this until recently but after reviewing several posts it's been ongoing for a while now.

I would really love some insight as to where to look for this. I've spent hours on it without success. I'm running 7.9 with lots of fixes and patches since.

Thank you!

Shop Purchases:
Clan Roster 2.0 · Multi Gaming (Warrior) Evo Theme · COD6 ModernWarfare 2 Teaser Splash Screen · Left for Dead Evo Extreme Version

That is a tricky one really. However, what changed in those two modules? and what phpnuke version are using?

Maybe not going to help you with this specific problem, but good advice anyway.

I'm using 7.9 phpnuke and there have been no changes to either of these modules. That's what makes this so strange. I suspect it's either some weird globals issue but honestly I'm clueless. It's not something that gets a ton of use (meaning the comments) so I never paid much attention until recently when I started cleaning up some loose ends with the themes.

I am not sure how code savvy you are, but if you can find the place in either module where it inserts the comment into the database. Then find the value it uses for the user_id. From there you can start to backtrack where that value comes from.

If you attach the modules in a zip I will look, but since I don't run 7.9 will be hard to beta test it.

I can not promise an answer, but I will try to give an idea to the answer. Least I can do in this situation.

Hey sorry it took so long. Been buried here. Attached are the two offending modules. To add even more crazyiness to it..other modules that offer comments features like coppermine are not suffering from the problem. Just these two modules and they happen to be the core modules that came with 7.9.

I appreciate any help or work around you can recommend.

The problem has been fixed. Something in the cookie handling was broken and just before the mysql insert it seems to have forgotten who the user was and don't ask me why or how because it honestly makes no sense. A well placed cookiedecode solved the problem in both modules. But thank you anyway :)
