Depends, what version you have and what are you look at upgrading to. What version of nuke are you running exactally. Nuke 7.x, Nuke 8.x, Evo, RavenNuke, platnium.
Most of the more secure versions out there like RavenNuke and Nuke Evolution come with upgrade scripts. I have upgraded a few sites and its not hard, just make backups of everything.
A few suggestions I can make on steps I took to insure that I had the site up and running before I transferred.
- Backup your Database
- Once you do that, create a new Database leaving your old one in place
- Upload the SQL file created when you did a backup to the new database
- Once you get the database made up, create a folder in your base root using your FTP naming it public_html1, same area where you see your config.php file of your Nuke install.
- Upload all the files from the html folder from the download of the Evo to the folder public_html1 you created in your root. the file path should look something like ROOT/public_html1
- Once you have that done, follow the instructions on converting your Database to work with Evo
- Once you do that, to install you will be going to the directory www.YOURSITE.com/public_html1/
- When you have your new site all set, Using your FTP, rename your public_html folder as public_html2 and move the public_html1 folder to the same level as your public_html2 folder and then rename it to public_html.
Use a free FTP program like Fliezilla if you don't have one that makes it easy to move directories to different levels.
- Once you have that done, you can name your public_html2 directory to public_html.BAK untill you have everything you need from it then you can delete it from your site and delete your database for the old site.
That is how I converted my old site with only 1 min of downtime.
Sounds harder then it really is, its not as bad as it sounds. I may make a brief video tutorial on how to do it, not sure yet. Well, on the creating the sub directories and going from there. not actually on the conversion of the DB just because there are may versions and many different versions of Nuke.
