Post Pbbans block/xml parser? Posted: Thu Jan 15, 2009 12:43 am

Just curious if anyone has seen something like this?

Basically, it takes a link like: http://www.pbbans.com/rss_feeds/aa_feed.xml

Then, it formats it in a block, and displays it.

If not, how hard would it be to write a block like that, that would display the info like so:

Player name: John Doe
GUID: 12345678
Reason for ban: MD5 Check fail
Date/time: 1/14/2009 - 17:45pm
Server that he was playing on/banning server: 123.456.789

Right now I'm using a raw xml feed as the block content, but its kinda... clunky looking. All it does is displays the player name, and 8 digit GUID.

Yeah, I know that.. it just doesn't look.... clean I guess.

Right now, using the xml feed as the block source, the block looks like this:

[-- PunkBuster Wall of Shame --]

·PhoeniXdeltA25 (48947204)
·sharp_shooterl (a561d5b3)
·Q(-_-Q)... (758f61c1)
·MGS_SolidSnake (73ee5a3f)
·LanEVO-GTsport (2b80a4f1)
·LRRP_SKULL (61ece1fa)
·yourlegs (26287c90)
·-RsF-RuSs!a[N]_BeaR (ddf2b789)
·NeVar1 (8bf5a86f)
·Totengraebertm (21ef9492)

It just looks a bit.... clunky to me, you know? So, I was curious if anyone has seen a block that formats the info from the feed differently. Maybe like adding a time/date stamp, server ip, and the reason why they were banned by PB (like an MD5 or CVAR violation)

Shop Purchases:
Clan Roster 2.0 · Multi Gaming (Warrior) Evo Theme · COD6 ModernWarfare 2 Teaser Splash Screen · Left for Dead Evo Extreme Version

I am not really familiar with this block. It all depends on what information is available from the xml document. I could work on someone's site if I had ftp info and the block is available to anonymous users.

You can send me ftp info and I will try to fit it in my schedule sometime, but no guarantee's when.

Well.. there really isn't a block, per say. Right now I'm using the RSS feed/url to fill the block with content. It's a standard, stock block in PHPNuke (when you create a block, it asks you for either a file name from a dropdown list, or a url to a feed - I'm using the latter)

I'm just curious if anyone uses a block that formats the info, and displays it in a neater fashion.

Then a custom block will have to be coded to display extra content if that is available in the xml feed. Lots of if's in that. Not an easy job at all.

Yeah, I figured as much. I've seen custom parsers for server stat info - I think I was using one that I found on here (I'm not 100% sure on that)

I was using an xml feed from serverspy.net to pull the server stats, but, I didn't like the way it displayed the info.

Btw, you were the coder for the Clan Roster 2.0 right?

Heh. That looked REALLY tight. Awesome job!

I'm tryin to convince the guys in the clan I'm doing the site for to spring for it - 5 bucks a person and they'll have it.

Thanks, the clan matches plugin will be coming out in February hopefully. Clan Roster is no more expensive than a theme purchase and took almost a year to get to 2.0. I know I am very pleased with the way that script has turned out.

Yeah man, I hear ya. I'd be proud as hell of it too.

Just one question about purchasing it though - the currency icon, is that Euro's? or British pounds? I'm kinda fuzzy on the symbols for currency, except for the Yen icon.

That is American dollars. Which is roughly ¸¸£25 pounds. Not sure on Yen though.

Do the themes come with the source files? (ie: .psd/pspimage, .fla/.swf files?)
