Post Sentinel: .htaccess problem Posted: Sun Dec 14, 2008 9:28 am

Hey guys,

I've finally managed to get Snetinel running (thx to DoC in the Clan-Themes Forums), but i have a problem with the .htaccess file.
My host doesn't support it, or disables it or somthing. So when the pop-up comes and asks for username and password, i give them (correctly) i press ok, and it just keeps asking my username and password over and over again! I now just deleted the .htaccess, the .ftaccess and the .staccess files, so i can still be in tha admin section of my site...

Is this a big problem? or can i just leave it like this untill my site is ready and on a better server?

I have followed the tutorial, and the installation is completed correctly. The .staccess and the .htaccess contain exactly what the have to contain. The problem is that my host blocks .htaccess files. They don't work correctly. So to still be able to enter admin, i just deleted them, my question is if this is a bad security problem, or will my site survive without the .htaccess file?

On the General Settings of sentinel

look for Admin Auth: see if u can set it to HTTPAuth

if not i really don't think it matters if your using the latest version of RavenNuke. Its just an extra security feature not essential.

Shop Purchases:
Enemy Territory Theme (Aviator) for PHP Nuke · Clan Roster 2.0 ·  · Modern Warfare 3 Xtreme Theme

I had a similar problem on my old old nuke site. I ended up finding that it was the encryption that sentinel was using that caused the problem. I ended up deleting the password encryption in the .staccess and manually typed my password in its place. so if my .staccess had

DreAdeDcoRpSE: $1$7otH.POH$wUyBi6PiRgPTROZoooi8z/

I just changed it to

DreAdeDcoRpSE: password

and that worked. More and likely not the best root for me to take, but it did work. If you try it make sure you have a backup.

I don't really think that you see my problem. So plz listen carfully.

My webhost (the guy who owns the server and provides me free storage of my site, php and MySQL support. Now this webhost of me, he blocks .htaccess files. I can't use .htaccess files. They don't work. Now, because they don't work i've deleted the .htaccess, .staccess and the .ftaccess file. My question is, is this bad? Do I really need those three files?

Thx you for all the help you've been trying to give me, but it doesn't work with the server i'm using.

i don't really think that you have read my post.
Please read my post carefully. HTTPAuth is script side not server side it does not require .htaccess. if u cant use that it dosent matter its just an extra security measure.
