Post How can i surround highlighted forum text with bbcode? Posted: Mon Nov 10, 2008 2:06 am

WOW Wrath Of The Lich King Theme

In my forum, if I have a word highlighted, and I press a bbCode button at the top such as Bold, it will place an opening bbCode tag at the end of the highlighted text, instead of placing the opening and closing [B] <text> tags around the highlighted text. It will do this regardless of whether I have something highlighted or not.

How can I change this to act like these forums do? I would like an opening and closing tag to be placed around the text I have highlighted with one button click.

ALSO

My font type, font size, and font color drop-down menus have some very screwy background colors going on, here are some screenshots:

How can I fix this to have a uniform white background?

Thanks!

Do you have bbcodebox 5.10 installed? I think it works with that script.

Tested, when I highlighted the above and hit the bold button it added open and closing tags. Here is the link

Well, I followed the install instructions and it resulted in this:

The tags are now added to both the beginning and end, however I'm not seeing all of the new buttons such as the spoiler, youtube, strike-through, sub/sup text, etc.

And now the buttons have no background.. it looks pretty bad

One thing that I noticed was in the install.txt file, when it had you edit the .TPL files, the instructions include the following:

Code:
#
#-------[ OPEN ]----------------------------------------------------
# Note: Do these instructions for all template files
#
themes/yourtheme/bbcode.tpl

First of all, that .TPL doesn't exist in that path.. I believe the correct path it's asking would be:

Code:
themes/yourtheme/forums/bbcode.tpl

And even if this is how it should be, that .TPL file doesn't contain the lines that the install.txt file has you search for to replace/add to.

Here are the two .TPL files located in the /themes/yourtheme/forums/ directory - I turned them into .txt format so they're readable through a browser:

bbcode.tpl file
posting_body.tpl file

So since those .TPL files didn't seem to be the right ones (at least I think), I looked in the /modules/Forums/templates/subSilver/ directory and edited the bbcode.TPL and posting_body.TPL in that directory. Those two files seemed to have the lines that the install.txt was having me find, and my phpbb forum configuration shows subSilver as the active theme.

Oh, and the drop down menu colors are still screwed up.

Did I do something wrong? Dont Know

You upgrading from one version to another. So the edits you are gonna make will be similar to what your suppose to adding.

You will have to use your imagination a little to figure it out.

I see.

Is the graphical interface of the button panels that this forum uses included with the bbCode Box 5.10 package on this site? In other words, is it possible for me to make the button panels look similar to what this forum uses with the code I have been given, or would I be required to manually make changes to achieve a similar look? Also, why the heck don't I have all of the buttons that I should?

Alright, I eventually figured it out.

Here's what happened - the install.txt instructions were very straight forward, however I found out that when I purchased the WOTLK theme, I couldn't find the sections that the install.txt file wanted me to change or add to within the posting_body.tpl file that came with the WOTLK theme package.

This is because the WOTLK posting_body.tpl file was already altered to work with an earlier version of bbCode, which was included with the theme package of course under 'extras'. One problem with this, is that the pre-altered .tpl file is very trashy and poorly formatted. It was very difficult to find where the code began and ended, and had to open up a visual HTML editor to play with the tables and figure out where things started and ended in order to properly replace the poorly-formatted old code with the new code.

Things work great now.

The drop-down menu colors are still screwed up, and I'm not sure if I can fix them but I will try.

I highly doubt this, as you can see the drop down menus are using a dark blue and gold theme, which is the exact color theme used by the WOTLK template.

I am running a standard silver XP theme - not even close to what the menus are showing up as.
