Hi all, I currently have phpnuke version 6.5 and I've been hacked too many times. For better security I keep reading about version 7.6 and Nuke Sentinel being the way to go.

Do I need to upgrade to phpnuke 7.6 first and then install Nuke Sentinel?

Id install the new Nuke evolution which has NukeSentinel already installed. But if you wish to stay with PHP Nuke, then if im not wrong you should upgrade and install Nuke Sentinel. Your site will keep getting hacked, and eventually it will be taken down.

I wasn't a big fan of Nuke Evolution at first. I was running phpnuke 7.9 with the 3.5 patch. After being hacked several times over time. I decided to switch CMS. Well I converted my site over to Evolution a few weeks back and I have to say that I am very impressed with it.

But if you want to stick with phpnuke, then upgrade your site to Ravennuke, which is the closest thing to phpnuke base model then anything else.

Both RavenNuke and Evolution work off of phpnuke 7.6 for that was the most secured version of phpnuke. But RavenNuke and Evolution took it further and made it more secured. Overall, RavenNuke and Evolution both use Nuke Sentinel, but here are the perks and downfalls off the top of my head.

RavenNuke:
Pros:

Great Security
Functions with most if not all phpnuke blocks/modules
Very functional

Cons:

Loads slightly slower
Moving blocks around requires extra steps.
Refreshing to see changes will be a common practice for you

Nuke Evolution:
Pros:

Good security
Functionality unbelievable
Great additions already added.

Cons:

Limited themes and blocks/mods out there as of now.
ACP a little harder to work with, (At First)
Sentinel not as updated as RavenNuke, but still does the same thing.

So either way, they both have there good and there bad. I personally had both and though I liked RavenNuke, the cons of it is what really bugged me the most to move to Evolution.

This is opinion based so people please, don't get all pissy and start huge flaming debates over it. Everyone has there own opinions. I am just stating facts from my past experiences on 3 RavenNuke sites and 2 Nuke Evolution sites.

thanks, just being as accurate as I can while trying to cover all my bases. For those who cant tell, even though I am new to Evolution, I am starting to like it better then RavenNuke.
