Post Need a module for posting specific news on my site Posted: Fri Jul 25, 2008 4:41 pm

Hi guy wondered if someone could help.

At the moment i currently use the nsn news module on my site and need a module that could easily be edited or adapted to perform a specific task. Basically i receive company press releases that are related to my site content and i wondered if there was a module that is similar to a news module whereby i could post all these press releases in it. It would be nice if there was a comments function so our users could comment on each poress release.

This module would not have to be visible on the homepage (although it would be nice if there was a front page block to show the module content)

Does such a module exist? I thought of maybe converting a review module for this purpose, but as each review module works on either ratings or hits to display in the index, it's not really what we are looking for - but is of a similar design layout that we require Confused

Any ideas would be greatly apreciated.

I'm looking to scrap our forums section as these only get used for the purpose of posting press releases and our publiushed reviews - and as our reviews are displayed within center blocks at the top center of our site and within a news posting via nsn news - our forums serve no real purpose.

Thanks in advance :)

Lets try and think...

There was the forum news advanced hack/mod basicly instead of posting in the news module, you would post in a forums section and it would display as news, if a user then wanted to comment he was taken directly to the forums article instead.. complex installation though.

This is a tough one..

Im trying to think of modules that you can actually post a comment about.. I think you might have to venture down a custom made one..

MReviews 5.0 has just been realsed, the news was posted on Ravens Nuke home page, it looked a lot better than the older version...

Any one else got any thoughts ?

I had this made, http://www.clan-themes.co.uk/modules.php?name=Game_Reviews dont know if you can see it though

Hi Ped
Thanks for the reply.

i did look at the forum news advanced hack/mod you mentioned - however as we are looking to shut the forums down as they serve no real purpose this wouldn't be the type of thing we would need (and yes there is ALOT of editing involved with that mod/hack).

Allowing users to comment isn't a big issue - more of a nice addon if available within the module.

I took a look at ravenphpscripts.com - you don't by any cdhance know how they did their expanding text thing in the top center block? I've been looking to adapt this on my site - but dhtml and javascript just won't work (all too confusing to me).

The module you had made looks great and is a step in the right direction to what we are looking for but without any of the ratings and page numbering/index. Just out of interest - does that review module allow categories? As i said our press releases come in dail;y and tend to be company specific i.e OCZ, Thermaltake - so a categories option would be good - however again this is not necessary.

Basically what i need is a module that has the following as standard:

- An admin panel where i can enter the press release title along with text and direct link
- The page needs to be displayed to users as a list (as our press releases tend to be 2 - 3 paragraphs in length) - with a possible search function i.e if a user wants to find press releases by OCZ Technology they type OCZ in to a search box or alternatively a similar appearance to the bog standard review module i.e A|B|C|D|E etc.

I know there is possible a module out there that could do this (or be easily edited) - i persoanlly have tried editing the FAQ module and Reviews module - but neither seem to do the job (the reviews module ranks items in the database by hits or rating)

Thanks for any help regarding this matter
