Post Install problems with some nuke cms variations.. Posted: Sat Jun 28, 2008 12:45 pm

Hi

We currently use a website provided by Xippy, which is ok, but it seems that everytime there is a bug in something, they remove the facility that had the bug, rather than fixing it, and new features that really are basic seem to get added to a long list that rarely seems to get implemented.

So I have started to look at using one of the Nuke CMS's, however I have encountered a bit of a problem:

When trying to install Php Nuke 8.0 when I navigate to www.myclansite.co.uk/html/install/install.php I just get a blank internet explorer screen (HTTP 500 Internal Server Error). Even if I just try www.myclansite.co.uk, I get a list of directories, but as soon as I try to navigate in to the html directory I get the same error, but I can navigate into the other directories no problem. Obviously doing the install using the installer is impossible as a result.

I get the same problem with Nuke Evo 2.0.5, although I can navigate again into all the other directories the html directory is in accessible.

Oddly I have been able to install Raven, PHP Clan and Webspell by navigating to the installer in the html directories.

Any idea why I cannot access the html directory of PhP Nuke or Evo to do the install?

Many thanks

Post Install problems with almost all nuke cms variations.. Posted: Sat Jun 28, 2008 12:49 pm

Shop Purchases:
Clan Roster 2.0 · Multi Gaming (Warrior) Evo Theme · COD6 ModernWarfare 2 Teaser Splash Screen · Left for Dead Evo Extreme Version

I personally think it sounds like a bad host. It could partially also be your inexperience with phpnuke.

I think your first goal should be finding a better host. I suggest total web hq.com , just google it. They rock and I been using them for almost 3 years now. Their fee's are minimal and it is worth it with their awesome support.

T3gaming.com is my site hosted with them. They have been just excellent. I don't have the first bad thing to say about them honestly. My longest support ticket response was 8 mins and avg is 3.

I appreciate your input floppy, but as I can install most incarnations of Nuke, but not these two, I am not going to change hosts just in case that is the problem.

It seems unlikely to me to be the host as all the versions I have tried seem to have the same requirements or thereabouts, and like I say the others work fine.

Well if you can get Raven's installed that is all you ever need or want. That is my professional opinion. Less is more. If I read your post correctly, you were able to do that.

floppy, you could be correct about raven, but i wanted to compare several in terms os basic features and the availability of thems, addons etc.

It would now appear that i can "solve" the issue temporarily...

If I don't change the config.php for nuke or evo before uploading the cms via ftp to the server then i can get to the install and fully install either CMS. However once the config.php has the MySQL database settings created into config.php, I can no longer access the root directory where the site is installed, ie. I cannot view index.php or admin.php!

Would this suggest that for some reason the two CMS's cannot access the mySQL databases that I have set up?

It could be that as you said, the database details entered into the config.php file are not correct but I would think that *should* give yo a mySQL error not a complete failure.
Uploading config.ph in Ascii rather than Binary mode from your FTP software might cause such a problem or editing the config.php in notepad or other none UTF-8 compliant editor.
I normally use Notepad++
Or it could be that the file only partially uploaded.

I appreciate your attempts at help guys. Turned out to be that Smart FTP was corrupting some of the files when uploading, and totally missing others without any hint of a fail message etc.

Installed to ftp through FireFTP on firefox and no problems with anything now. Got about 6 Nuke based CMS's installed now and I gotta say that Nuke Evo is my favourite from what I have seen, though PNC is possibly a better solution but ofcourse there is no further support for it so thought I would go for Evo.
