I really like the way CoD4 plays, but have noticed alot of hacking going on. Will Punkbuster ever be able to catch these punks?
Mostly what I see is wall hacking. I know that CoD4 has the UAV, but as I spectate suspicious players, I see them staring at the wall shooting other players while their UAV is inactive. These punks, with such low self esteame, are ruining the game for all of us!

Hackers are everywhere, Steam and PunkBuster will never be able to catch them all the time. Every time punkbuster or steam catches a new hack, a new hack comes out. It's an endless battle. A few clans like mine have gotten together in a coalition and when we suspect a WH is being used, we spec that player and demo them, we also record there IP on the demo and we get as a group and review the demo and vote on it. If we find that this person ia cheating and Wall Hacking, we bacn them from all our servers and we submit the demo's and IP's to PunkBuster. We have cough to date close to 200 different hacks over various games. Now we just focus on RTCW, I am currently working on a new site for Enemy Territory Quake Wars. My suggestion is if there isn't one for CoD then talk to your clan and other clans and try forming one up. It helps allot and it really drives people not to hack, well at least not on our server or of the servers in the coalition.

They are all pretty much the same. Steam is slow as hell along with PB. But what are you going to do, having them is better then having nothing. Unless if you can make a better program. I hear allot of people whine, PB sucks, Steam sucks. well i agree, I don't like them, but, I don't hate them.

Most server admins do not know how to utilize pb to there avangtes, everyone think that in pb in on the server thats all there is to it (wrong) its up to the admins to get it streaming to the mbl and to add all the md5 checks from the current batch of know hacks and dx tools.

Look at my sig, that 7 scumbags guilds globally banned !, thats a new game if they want to play on any pb server ! and my servers been up less than a month.

PB is so much better than what u lot think

i feel that pb realy drops the ball on most of the hacks out there for any game.but yea it seems to do a fine job of kicking players for packet lost errors.

Correct poootang, no matter how fast PB updates there system with new cought hacks, the cheaters are always going to be one step ahead.

Overall, I do believe there are ways to combat the cheats but havent been intruduced yet or havent been designed. One thing I have notticed, with some of the newer games that are comming out. Punkbuster is installed onto your PC and runs as a seperate process. I wounder since its running as a seperate process, is it possible to have it do like a check or scan to see if any file that is not part of the original game is being used and if so can it send like a log to PB to do a check. With allot of these newer games, when most people play. they don't have any other programs running just for reasons of the lag and the lowered FPS. If the log shows its a separate program like a messenger, or team chat it will register it and ignore it.

Or do like a system check of the game folders and/or any folder associated with it to go through and seek out files that aren't supposed to be there. I don't know much about programing but there has to be a better way of doing checks. But till someone comes up with a better way, hackers will always have the upper hand. The only thing people can do is play fair, which as we know, cant be done because allot of people have that urge to be the best, no matter the cost. I personally hate cheaters and if the person really needs to use a hack to win then I ask one simple question, why even play?

Just recently we have had a guy that was a so so player, needed some help in his game but overall not a bad player just recently become to good. Well in our investigation and reviewing demos that were recently taken, we found that he is cheating and is banned from our server and many others servers. so as of now, the best anti cheat out there as of now, is the server admins.
