Post Help needed Posted: Thu Jul 05, 2007 11:21 pm

Hi guys wondered if someone could help me out.

We currently use phpnuke fully patched up to date running nuke sentinal. Our forums are using the subsilver theme, but we have noticed recently the Who's Online block in the forum index isn't working.

In our forum acp it states there are between 30-40 poeple online and tells me where the various guests are viewing. However in the forum index the Who's online block (at the bottom of the page) apears to only be showing the registered members online and display's the guest number as 0 all the time.

Any Idea's

Thanks
Darren

i think you should bear in mind the forums one has a setting where you show who is online over a certain time frame.

i.e you can show who was on your forum board at the bottom over the last 20 minutes hence the differences you are getting between the two.

the forums would show who has been on in the last 20 mins (loads)
and the who is online shows (who is online now!)

Have a look in the forums config im sure i have seen the setting Dont Know

Hi ped, thanks for the reply.
Ive been working on this all day and am no closer to even begin finding out wheat the problem is, how it started and where to go to fix it.

Im pretty sure it's got nothing to do with load timers as no matter what time day or night i view my forums the total amount of guests online is always displayed as 0.

One thing to mention is the who's online block at the bottom of the forum index page does display total members online which does match up with the information shown at any given time within my forum acp. The only problem i can see is that our forums are not recognizing and displaying any guests online within that block at any time of the day or night. This problem has been apparent for the last two weeks - when we first opened up our forums to the public about 4 weeks ago - the who's online did diaplay the total number of guests online - and so i am puzzled as to why this has now stopped working.

We currently have the viewing forums mod loaded onto our forums (this displays the total amount of users in each separate forum board) - while this is a good mod it doesn't solve the actual amount of people online (i.e will not tell you how many people are within the forum index).

Another problem i have noticed within the who's online block in the forum index is the most users online function:

Most users ever online was 11 on Sun Jun 17, 2007 1:06 pm

This information is completely wrong as since our competition began on 24th june our forums have had more users than this online within the forums (last night we had in excess of 40+ people online within our forums - this information was shown within the forum acp) Out of the 40+ people within the forum 19 of those were viewing the forum index while the rest were viewing various forum boards.

Another thing to mention is that we have a user info block on our mainsite which works perfectly and tally's with the total number of users shown in the admin control panel.

I have posted this problem elsewhere and the only help i was given was to check my nuke_sessions table in phpmyadmin, if i could browse the table with no errors then at least i knew the sessions table was not corrupt. I was also told to run a check on the sessions table and the message given was that it was ok and there were no errors given.

Any help would be great - it's important that i get this problem fixed as our forums are getting quite popular and whenever anyone views them they are given the impression it's a ghost town.

Thanks in advance (i apologise for such a long post - i hope ive explained my problem in a way that is understandable)

Darren

Shop Purchases:
Clan Roster 2.0 · Multi Gaming (Warrior) Evo Theme · COD6 ModernWarfare 2 Teaser Splash Screen · Left for Dead Evo Extreme Version

This is gonna sound dumb, but try this. Load up a default theme like deep blue and see if you get the same result.

Oh never mind you are already using a default theme for phpbb. Did who is online ever work?

Hi guys
thanks for the replies.

I posted this problem on codewiz who have suggested that maybe some of the nuke phpbb mods ive installed could be conflicting with the who's online index forum mod/block. Someone seemed to think that the conflict was something to do with the user ranks mod or the advanced username colour mod. I have uploaded my original files from before i adapted the two mods and dropped the tables they created in phpmyadmin - but still no luck.

Someone also suggested incorrect variables within the forum tpl file - i have re-downloaded phpnuke 7.9 and checked the tpl files for any differences within them refer to guests online - and everything seems to match.

I have also tried re-uploading the default forum that came with our site theme and still the problem persists.

I am literally out of ideas on what to do next Sad

Any input/help would be great - ive been working on this for like 4 days solid.

Thanks in advance

Darren

Could you point me to the download you used for your install of 7.9. I think its the core install or the template.

What I am thinking is you need a core install with nothing else on it. This will give you an idea if a mod is inflicting pain upon the given problem.

Oh well - the core install didn't work - mainly due to the forum being displayed as a blank page Confused

Any other suggestions are greatly apreciated.

Thanks
Darren
