Post looking for something quite different..... Posted: Mon Jun 04, 2007 8:15 pm

Hi,
as you can see I am new here....
I have set up an unusual site, I have installed PNC 4.2 and for my forums, I have installed SMF.
These of course are running on seperate tables in the database, I think its coming along well, but of course:
Now I want to know if anyone can come up with a way to hack the 2 user accounts together....
I have:
PNC 4.2
SMF forums
one database with two tables (one for PNC and one for SMF)

Shop Purchases:
Clan Roster 2.0 · Multi Gaming (Warrior) Evo Theme · COD6 ModernWarfare 2 Teaser Splash Screen · Left for Dead Evo Extreme Version

That my friend is a project. Can you email me a dump of the SMF user table?

I would like to compare the two. Out of curiosity? Why are you not using PHPBB/BB2NUKE?

It has been a BIG project so far!
I am self taught with few capabilities in Dreamweaver and MS Frontpage, its enough to try learning PHP Nuke as we realize we cannot make ourselves happy with PHPBB, but find that happiness with SMF forums.....now I am learning that too!

Ok, I have prepared a dump of the user table, but how do I email you?

TY as well.....for the interest and quick response!

You wanted to look at user tables and I am guessing that means look into this idea of integration that I have...

We NEED this running soon, so I am currently turning off all nuke based mods/blocks that use sign in.....this way i can let our clan use the site and sign in to the forums.....

The plan is to set up a test duplicate of this site to work on the user integration. For now, heres the link:
3i~clan site made using PNC 4.0 with SMF forums

if you decide to the route of turning off all the nuke user login functions then just use the smf login. You should have no problems.

That is our temp solution as we need to move to this site fast.....

Turning off those mods is not the best choice, we lose features like admin log in, shoutbox, chat......
I would like to see this integrated....does it seem owrth your while to look further into it Floppy or anyone?

I am hoping this kind of thing will provide an answer and option for others as well!

Its going to be easier to set the login block to work with the smf forums and completely lose the your account module.

So in essence it would be easier to make a login block for nuke that used the smf table. Providing they are both part of the same database.

Using two different CMS types is a huge hard task. Easy to convert one database to another, but use them side by side is a pain in the butt. My honest opinion I don't find this decision very wise, but admire you for listening to your users.

Why dont you just use the PHPBB forums that come with PhpNuke ? seems like a lot less hassle !

I have used SMF and they are super super super fast i do like that aspect of SMF but your causing yourself a lot of work m8

What i did as our old site had a big board on SMF i just placed the forums in an iframe and the users had to use 2 separate accounts, it worked the only down side i found was that an email responce to a thread took them to the SMF board and not the iframe version

I know its not ideal but it worked Bad HAir Day

floppy, you are right....I am listening to my clan. They LOVE the added abilities with user groups and sucj that SMF allows for.

Ped, I appreciate the thought, but the PHPBB forums have been rejected by the group already.

So here I am, trying to find a better way than a link or iframe, I would like as I said to try help give this option to others as well.
For now, I am going to try look into pointing log in module to the SMF user table as they are a part of the same database....I just dont know how to do that yet!

Then, if I am to keep all mods that come installed with PNC 4, I will have to rework vWar, Shoutbox, and the chat mod that I had installed.

If anyone is interested, I am open to setting up a test site on our server and allowing access.....I am also thinking of inviting someone who was working on a nuke/SMF integration....

Thanks for the input so far guys....I would (assuming this works out) like to put a banner in our supporters list for your site....where would I find one?
