Setting up user groups Help please Posted: Tue May 29, 2007 6:05 pm

I am a IPB forum user for many years and used too how that forum is controled and set up with user groups etc via the admincp.

phpbb seems very basic in functionality which is fine what I dont understand what should seem simple is creating user groups.

Example my clan site thats on IPB forums is like this:

Group: Full Clan Member <-- Members here can see selected forums and only full clan members have acess to clan forums
Group: Contributor <-- see's all Public forums only but has it's own Group for access to our arcade
Group: Trial Member <-- see's Public forums and Trial Member forums (not Full Member forums)

etc etc etc

I dont understand how I create user groups and then grant permissions to groups to certain forums.
Can people be added to multiple groups as well ?

Please help on this.

In the forum Admin Control Panel, There is a whole section for groups! Including Permissions.

Adding people to groups has to be done outside the admin panel <-- this may be theou tricky part to figure out.

Yes they can be added to multiple groups with multiple permissions.

Also if your using raven nuke, its comes with nsn groups installed. This allows you to manage everything, but permissions in the nuke admin panel.

Hi, Yes I am using raven nuke, I dont understand nsn groups sorry.
Can you be more guiding with your answer in how I actually make user groups please ?

I want to create the groups then add users to them, or does it not work like that with this phpbb system ?

right so how do I add groups then ?

AND then how do I add permissions, so certain groups have access to certain forums ?

NSN Groups is ownage.

Go to
http://www.yoursite.com/admin.php?op=NSNGroups

Add a group and add some members.

Go to your forum ACP. This can be found by clicking the forums button inside nuke administration.

Next find the Groups in the menu. Under that you will see permissions.

Also a note. You must first set a forums permissions to private. These of course are the forums you don't want anyone to read without permissions.
