Post Inserting sql through the use of phpmyadmin Posted: Sat May 05, 2007 1:30 pm

This may sound stupid... But how do you create tables from an SQL file. I was able to do it once before but only because it was in a .php file and it had step by step instructions. But now i have a .SQL file and I have no idea what to do with it. Can I get some help?

Shop Purchases:
Clan Roster 2.0 · Multi Gaming (Warrior) Evo Theme · COD6 ModernWarfare 2 Teaser Splash Screen · Left for Dead Evo Extreme Version

You can do this two ways, but you need to do it from phpmyadmin.

In cpanel find mysql databases - on the databases page at the very bottom is a link to phpmyadmin.

Once inside phpmyadmin you can click the import tab and browse to your .sql file.

Or you can click the sql tab and copy the text from .sql file into the input area, then hit go.

Hope that helps

I'm not sure what type of hosting you have, but you need to have access to your database through a maintenance program. Floppy mentioned PHPMyAdmin because it is the most popular. Check with your host to find out how to access your MySql database directly.

Post is your hosting free or paid for? Posted: Sun Jun 17, 2007 10:25 am

maybe i can help a little.

to insert a .sql file first you need to go to your sites cp (control panel) you can access this by typing your web address in to your browser followed by /cpanel ie: www.yoursite.com/cpanel
then you need to login.

once in find your mysql option/link. and go
then you will have an option in there for phpmyadmin. go there
then it will list your sql databases. select the database you want to add the sql file to. ie if your running nuke then the database my be named something like _nuke. it will list all tables in that database. there will be an option to "import" click that and browse for your sql file on your computer. then just click upload. thats it.

if you like i will do it for you or email me and i will email you back my number and you can call me and i will talk you through it as you do it. but first make sure you have access to your sites control panel. if your not sure ask your host.
