This brief tutorial will explain what you need and how to implement a good clan site using PHPNuke

www.gimp.org/I will try to keep this as simple as possible and where I can I will elaborate on how to get your perfect looking Clan Site using PHPNuke.

Introduction

PHPNuke has been around since 2000 and was started by Francisco Burzi and released under GPL/GNU. Since he sold phpnuke.org in 2007 the releases and updates have all but sold and no one actually knows who purchased phpnuke.org.

PHP-Nuke is a content management system allowing web masters to create community-based portals (websites), in which users and editors can post news items (user-submitted news items are selected by editors) or other types of articles. Registered users can then comment on these articles using a full featured commenting system.

Modules can be added to the PHP-Nuke system allowing additional features such as an Forum, Downloads, Calendar, News Feed, FAQ's , Private Messaging and others. The site is maintained through an administration section.

Since the release in 2000 various variants and forks were produced and it started a CMS revolution. PHPNuke for its time was excellent and very easy to use. By far the best release was around 2004 that being Nuke Platinum which was an enhanced version of PHPNuke based on the standard release of version 7.6.

7.6 was said to have been the best release even as of today which we are on version 8.1, the releases from 7.6 to 8.1 didn't see very many changes and added no security it was thought that the new releases were just being made for financial gain and no interest in improving the security or problems were being addressed.

The PHPNuke community were getting very annoyed that the issues of security and problems mainly bad coding were not being addressed so more and more forks were evolving. Notable forks include:

  • Dragonfly CMS — based on PHP-Nuke 6.5 with Coppermine Photo Gallery included
  • LGNuke — based on PHP-Nuke 7.6 and web 2.0 with, ajax included.
  • Nuke-Evolution — Based on PHP-Nuke with many security fixes, custom modifications, and PHP-Nuke modifications pre-installed.
  • RavenNuke CMS — Based on PHP-Nuke version 7.6, with many security fixes, custom modifications, add-ons, and XHTML 1.0 Transitional compliance.
  • phpWebSite — project managed by the Web Technology Group at Appalachian State University.
  • Postnuke — based on PHP-Nuke 5.0.
  • XOOPS — based on PHP-Nuke and myPHPNuke.
  • PNC — based on PHP-Nuke with vWar and SQuery included. Adapted and customized for gaming and clan community
  • Mega-Nuke — Based on PHP-Nuke version 7.4, but with many security fixes, custom modifications and couple of add-ons.
  • NPDS (Net Portal Dynamic System) — is a (french) fork of PHP-Nuke 4.6.
  • Nuke Xtreme — based on Nuke Evolution v2.07 and adapted and enhanced modules, blocks, add-ons and forum mods.
  • Platinum Nuke — Based on PHP-Nuke version 7.6 with lots of added modules and blocks and security.
  • Future Nuke — Based on PHP-Nuke version 7.6 with lots of added modules and blocks and security.

As you can see the list is endless, this is because coders and supports of PHPNuke grew to realize there were many problems with the Standard PHPNuke and joined forces with fellow coders and made amends.

The most popular variants used today are:

  • RavenNuke CMS — Based on PHP-Nuke version 7.6, with many security fixes, custom modifications, add-ons, and XHTML 1.0 Transitional compliance.
  • Nuke Xtreme — based on Nuke Evolution v2.07 and adapted and enhanced modules, blocks, add-ons and forum mods.

Recommendations

Depending on what type of site you are making is what version of PHPNuke I would personally use today. Its rather simple to grasp, but at the end of the day it is your choice and this is why i recommend you try both of the "better" versions to see for yourself. I would also suggest you visit both of the developers sites and get a feel for the "forums".

If you are wanting to make a Gaming Website, then I ;personally would use Nuke Xtreme it is highly modified with custom Modules, Blocks, Add-ons and most importantly for gaming sites Forum Mods.

If you are making a business or personal website I would use Ravens Nuke simply because it has no added mods and is a stripped down simple to install and very flexible you can add what you need or use later.
