PhpNuke · Who is still running php 4? This article can help you find out and update

Posted on Sunday, June 28, 2009 @ 23:01 by floppy

I am including another php 5 only option in the new matches plugin and I am just curious who is still running php 4?  If you absolutely do not know, here is an easy way to find out.

http://www.clanthemes.com/article354-phpnuke-phpinfo-for-admins-only.html

Two of the most important components (being all cryptic now haha) for matches are probably going to both require php 5, although for now the script will run without those two features in 4.  I mean php 6 is already in beta, 4 just seems like legacy.  When you look at from a coders aspect it really is.

Upgrading should be as easy as doing it yourself through cpanel OR submitting a ticket to your host.  If the host will not do it, find a new host seriously.  For those running your own server, depending on your specific build type.  I suggest Google, but it still isn't rocket science.

As a side note, I if you can't tell.  I am seriously thinking of dropping php 4 support for my clan manager project.  I don't know why that would be a problem for anyone, but people surprise me everyday.

Oh well just curious, its an open topic even if you don't own roster.

i think you should focus more on PHP 5 cause it must make it harder for you to work around it to make it compliance to both 4 and 5?

Some things are surely impossible, without spoiling some of the new features of the matches plugin. Some things are just not available in php 4.

Like you said, just make it very crystal clear that on the purchase page it stipulates it will not support PHP4 be cause we both know what people are like !!

I agree with Snype though, just code it to PHP5

I know how you feel though trying to design something that works in IE, Firefox, Opera can be a pain ! unfortunately thats not an option for you, because the functions just dont work in PHP4...

Im using PHP 5 myself and everyone else should be also. Use PHP 5 coding and if people want the script bad enough they will upgrade. Its not like its that hard to upgrade anyway, just takes some time is all.

As I was talking to you Floppy a week ago or so, They should be easily able to upgrade if they renting from a company, and if there company says they cant, then that host is not worth being, but the odds of that actually happening is very slim for these host want to keep up-to-date with the competitive world just so they can survive as a company.

This is true, after the next roster plugin release I will be officially going to php 5. Thanks for the comments. I wish more users were participating in the discussion.
