CT Website · CT Comment System Updated with New Features, Help Needed

Posted on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 @ 11:36 by floppy

Once upon a time long long ago someone suggested I code in a feature to stop receiving emails when a new comment is posted for an article.  I can't exactly remember who it was, but your suggestion was noted.  Today, I am very pleased to announce the inclusion of that feature with a few more.  You will find a small checkbox below the comment textarea to use this feature.

If in the future you decide you no longer want to receive emails all you have to do is edit your comment and un-check the box at the bottom.

  • Ability to quote other comments
  • Ability to be notified by email when new comments are posted (default is no or unchecked)
  • Removed the ability to post blank comments
  • Closing of comments after 1 month after the article has been published
  • Closing of ratings after 1 month after the article has been published
  • Fixed the rating return url, you now will come back to the article after rating.
  • Now only allowing 1 rate per article per user.  Negotiated by ip and cookie.
  • Point values for comments and ratings have been increased.

However, I was only able to beta test it to certain degree and I need some people to help me out.  Thanks to whoever suggested this feature, it really was needed.  Feel free to leave a comment or rate this article as any information you provide is very helpful.

EDIT - small error fixed on ratings thanks to Untergang.

Sounds really cool. Alot of sites have the features to comment others comments as if like someone had a question a user could reply you know.I see this as improving an already decent system. And yeah Floppy its good to get back in the saddle every once in awhile so you don't forget what you're doing ;)

All you need to add now is a link to users profile from there name, for example if i clicked on 5STAR''s name it showed me his profile...

How about adding the number of replies posted before there avatar ? not important but could be interesting...really liking it so far though, a must for all phpnuke sites... why isn''t this as standard in PHPNuke ?

PHPNuke needs a good kick up the backside to get an injection again, so many other popular CMS''s, saying that though it does to well in the gaming sites !

I had to take another look at this problem. Took quite some time work it out in my head how the line breaks work.
